Bloom x Illinois Launch: April 2023

Bloom has been so humbled by our success in California, and with every new market we enter, we look for ways to make a positive impact on the cannabis community. Our latest launch is one we are particularly proud of because of the incredible licensing program and devotion to social equity in the Illinois cannabis industry.

Bloom has recently partnered with The 1937 Group. As a leading social equity license holder in Illinois, The 1937 Group shares Bloom’s commitment to promoting social equity and providing high-quality cannabis products. The partnership will create a consistent consumer experience, with Bloom’s signature Classic strains and Live Resin concentrates available across Illinois. We admire The 1937 Group’s dedication to addressing the harms of the past and look forward to continuing our partnership to support social equity initiatives.

Who is The 1937 Group?

The 1937 Group understands the history of cannabis prohibition and its impact on communities of color, and their name was directly influenced by The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937. This act laid the foundation for the federal criminalization of marijuana, fueled by widespread racial discrimination against Mexican and Black Americans. The effects of cannabis prohibition, inequities in executive and legislative enforcement, and mass incarceration are a direct cause of the current state of many families and communities.

This understanding of history and its impact has led The 1937 Group to be deliberate about how the industry can address the harms of the past and chart a path forward that is more inclusive and equitable.

The 1937 Group’s “Grow Through Adversity” program aims to address systemic barriers to economic opportunities for individuals who have been negatively impacted by the war on drugs. This program provides support and resources to improve mental health, reduce the recurrence of violent offenses, and increase employment and business ownership.

As a leading social equity license holder in Illinois, The 1937 Group represents one of the few licensed operators in the state with cannabis cultivation, processing, infusion, transportation, and retail dispensary capabilities. This distinction provides a competitive advantage in creating products and brands that uniquely represent the consumer base of Illinois and the broader Midwest region.

A Partnership of Shared Values

The 1937 Group is the first vertically integrated, BIPOC-owned cannabis operator in Illinois, making them an ideal partner for Bloom, which is immigrant- and minority-helmed. Together, they will produce some of Bloom’s most popular concentrate strains at The 1937 Group’s cultivation facility just outside of Chicago.

Partnering with The 1937 Group aligns with Bloom’s values of promoting social equity and providing high-quality cannabis products. Bloom has built a strong reputation for quality vape concentrates and innovative consumption technologies in California, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Massachusetts. Our proprietary Surf vaping device is one of the most efficient and cost-effective pieces of cannabis technology available.

Our high-potency vapes will be available in .5g and 1.0g formats, with strains that include Maui Wowie, Pineapple Express, King Louie, and Grandaddy Purple, as well as seasonal live terpene offerings.

“We knew right away that Ambrose Jackson of The 1937 Group was deeply aligned with Bloom’s values,” said Bloom founder Vitaly Mekk. “We admire his business acumen and 1937’s grassroots ethos. This best-in-class partnership will create a consistent consumer experience. Our goal is to prove to Illinois consumers that we get the true soul of this industry.”
